Scope of Practice

Pitegoff Law Office PLLC limits its practice to business law. The firm's services in the fields of franchising, information technology and intellectual property are focus areas of the firm's broader business law practice. The firm represents companies large and small, from the New York metropolitan area and worldwide.

In franchising, Pitegoff Law Office PLLC represents franchisors, franchisees and area developers. When appropriate, we also help companies to establish distribution and licensing systems that are not franchises, and we advise companies whose businesses may inadvertently fall within the scope of the franchise laws.

In information technology, we provide legal counsel and representation to a range of firms that are actively using the Internet in their growing businesses. We also assist clients that are not in the IT business with the Internet and networking aspects of their Martindale-Hubbell Peer-Review Rated For Ethical Standards & Legal Abilityoperations. We also represent more traditional computer companies, such as network integrators and software developers.

Intellectual property is central to our work for all types of clients. Our IP work consists of counseling and contract drafting and negotiation on business transactions that involve IP. We also handle trademark registrations and oversee trademark portfolios. The broad range of contracts we draft includes trademark licenses, software and patent licenses, maintenance agreements, development agreements, nondisclosure agreements, consulting agreements, web terms and privacy policies. For patent prosecutions, we work with other law firms.

Tom Pitegoff frequently acts as outside general counsel for companies that do not have in-house counsel. While some of these clients may be franchise or technology companies, others may be from entirely different fields, including consumer products, retail, business services, automotive, advertising and more. The firm also acts as special counsel for larger companies on matters within the firm's core competencies.
